Post Storm Damage Inspection Melbourne Melbourne, Victoria
Storms can cause serious damage to homes across Melbourne, even when the signs are not immediately obvious. Heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and falling branches can lead to roof leaks, moisture ingress, cracked tiles, damaged gutters, and structural movement. I carry out post storm damage inspections to identify visible and hidden building issues before they worsen.
You receive a clear report with photos, practical advice, and independent findings that can assist with repairs, maintenance planning, or insurance claims.

Storm Damage Is Often Worse Than It Looks
After severe weather, many homeowners focus on visible damage like broken roof tiles or fallen fencing. What often gets missed are the hidden issues sitting behind walls, ceilings, and roof spaces. Water can enter small openings and slowly spread through insulation, timber framing, and plaster long before stains appear.
I regularly inspect Melbourne homes where storm-related leaks were left too long and caused mould, timber decay, ceiling collapse, or electrical risks months later. A proper inspection helps identify these problems early while repairs are still manageable.
What I Check During a Storm Damage Inspection
I inspect all accessible areas affected by weather exposure and water entry. This includes roofing, gutters, flashings, ceilings, walls, roof spaces, external cladding, drainage areas, and subfloors where applicable.
I also use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to help detect trapped moisture that may not yet be visible on the surface. Melbourne’s weather can turn quickly, and I often find damage in areas homeowners would never normally check.
Roof and Gutter Damage
I check for cracked roof tiles, lifted flashings, blocked gutters, damaged downpipes, and signs of water entry around the roof structure.
Internal Moisture and Water Ingress
I inspect ceilings, walls, flooring, and roof spaces for leaks, moisture spread, swelling materials, mould risks, and hidden water damage.
Independent Reporting for Insurance and Repairs
Many clients contact me after storms because they are unsure how serious the damage really is. Others need an independent inspection before lodging an insurance claim or organising repairs. A detailed report gives you documented evidence of the property’s condition and helps identify what requires immediate attention.
I explain the findings clearly and outline which issues may worsen if ignored. In some cases, early detection can save homeowners from much larger repair costs down the track.
Support Insurance Claims
The inspection report provides photographic evidence and clear observations that may assist when dealing with insurers or repair contractors.
Prevent Further Damage
Finding leaks and moisture problems early helps reduce the risk of structural deterioration, mould growth, and internal damage.
